Soverato Retirement

Nov 24,2022

Following his short tenure with the Century Horse Racing Club, the decision was made to retire Soverato from racing. While we will certainly miss cheering him on, we are very excited to share a lovely update about him!

Since retiring from the track, Soverato was placed with Performance Standardbreds in Calgary to help him prepare for his new career outside of racing. We recently received this update from Kathy of Performance Standardbreds and wanted to share with our members as we have received a few questions about the next steps for him!

"Having recently retired from racing and a short break to begin his transition for a new career option, 'Saul' was fortunate to have experienced caregivers waiting in the wings. It is not often we rehome our placement horses so early on, however, when we have an ideal match in place we make allowances.

Steve & Peggy Lee Remus, were such a match. As former fosters for our program and their extensive experience rehabbing and retraining, we had every confidence Saul would be in good hands. Steve and Peggy are avid combined driving enthusiasts and have had a great pair for a number of years. The leader in the tandem pair is “Actuary”, the first Standardbred they fostered for us and ultimately kept. The wheeler was Steve’s Morgan mare who is in advanced years and retired from competition. Saul will be training to fill the wheeler position.

As with all our placements, Saul will have a 2 month trial period to ensure he will be a good fit for this new job. If all goes well, he will continue his training in Arizona during the winter months with barely time to grow a winter coat!

We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know this boy, he is extremely personable with a confident and outgoing character. His pasture pals were sad to see him go as we were.

We wish him and Steve & Peggy all the best on this new adventure and we know Actuary will be a great role model and friend."

We will be sure to share any additional updates as we receive them, but we wish Soverato well in his new adventures!
