You could see Paul Davies grin for miles across the track last Monday (August 6) as he accomplished a new track record here at Century Downs. OUTLAW GRABBINGEARS raced a sizzling 1:55.2 in the two-year-old colts and geldings race on August 6 earning Davies a spot in Century Downs’ record books.
“There’s always been a strong connection between me and ‘OUTLAW’,” said Davies. “When Connie Colthammer was bringing in some babies to train and let them see the track for the first time, I helped her out and as soon as I drove OUTLAW GRABBINGEARS I asked her how much, she named a price and I came home with a horse. It was pretty simple.”
Although Davies will be heading back with his other six horses to Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino, he is confident that OUTLAW GRABBINGEARS will do well here at Century Downs under Rod Starkewski’s care.
“Starkewski is going to train him during the fall and then I’ll be back to do the driving in the winter,” said Davies.
To add to Davie’s success that day, he and CHEDDAR JACK also inherited the first-place victory in the Ralph Klein Memorial race after first-place finisher BETTER WATCH OUT was disqualified.
“It was a pretty stressful day at the Hennessey barn for CHEDDAR JACK and me, because the whole barn had been fighting a virus that week, but thankfully CHEDDAR JACK is a strong horse and handled the race well,” said Davies.
Again, Century Downs would like to congratulate Davies OUTLAW GRABBINGEARS and CHEDDAR JACK for their successful day on August 6!
