Standardbreds Break From Retirement

Retired Standardbreds are coming out of retirement for the annual Pace Under Saddle on Saturday, August 26th. Seven ladies will be racing on horseback to raise money for the charities of their choice. This one-of-a-kind sight is something that racing fans of all calibers will enjoy, while raising money for great causes.

Starting at Post 1, Devann Crick, with RANGO, will be riding for the HRA Backstretch Foundation. This non-profit organization is a group of Backstretch Volunteers who work together to help backstretch workers at racetracks across Alberta. They provide benevolence for jockeys, grooms, exercise riders, trainers, drivers, and those who make their living at the racetrack. At Post 2, Lisa Sollback, with MAXAMILLION GB, will be riding for Performance Standardbreds. This organization was established in 1990 by Standardbred enthusiasts, who understood the shining potential of the breed. After a horse has retired from racing, what does it do? Performance Standardbreds helps these horses start a new career in jumping, dressage, and endurance and competitive trail, just to name a few. At Post 3, Lavinia Bauer, with RED STAR CHANCE, will be riding for the Airdrie Boys and Girls Club. The core mission of the Airdrie Boys and Girls Club is to provide a safe and supporting place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life. The Clearwater Boys and Girls Club in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta provides a safe and supporting place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop and skills for life. At Post 5, Faith Jones, with NATIONAL INTEREST, will be riding for the Not in My City Campaign. This campaign is raising awareness of human trafficking in Calgary, with a focus on sexual exploitation. Trafficking activity has been documented by police at large entertainment and sporting events. Not in My City aims to raise community awareness, shine a spotlight on existing resources, and provide strategies and solutions against human trafficking. For more information, please go to

At Post 6, Jaline Munkholm, with RAYS CROWN ROYAL, will be riding for the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. As the leading heart institute in Western Canada, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute has the best and brightest healthcare team to care for the most complex and chronic cardiac patients. At Post 7, Kaylea Hepburn, with MEADOWLAND APACHE, will be riding for Equinox Therapeutic’s Making Strides program. This program provides no-charge equine-assisted mental health therapy services to Edmonton community members who are currently reciving support through Boyle Street Communicty Services and/or the Bissell Centre. After Race 8, the Pace Under Saddle race will take place. These seven ladies will be giving it their all to raise awareness and money for their worth-wile causes. Also taking place on Saturday, Century Downs will be celebrating the ladies with Ladies Day at the Track! Slip into our VIP area for complimentary samples, exclusive seating and a chance to win great prizes!
