Century Downs Racetrack and Casino will be the host of the WPCA World Chuckwagon Racing Finals from August 21-25, 2019! This 5-day championship event will feature the world’s premiere chuckwagon drivers, outriders and horses.
Chuckwagon racing fans will have the opportunity to see the horses up close and experience the action with high profile stars including the likes of Calgary Stampede and World Champions Jason Glass, Luke Tournier, Kirk Sutherland and Kurt Bensmiller.
Bensmiller has had quite an exciting career. Over the past five seasons he has won three World Championships, four Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Championships, three Calgary Stampede Aggregate Titles, and two Ponoka Stampede Championships.
When asked about what this means to the Chuckwagon Drivers, Bensmiller said, “It’s a very exciting time for us to be able to have such a prestigious event to have an actual WPCA Finals now. Everybody’s excited and really looking forward to the 2019 season.”
Bensmiller also explained what the Chuckwagon Drivers are up to in the off-season, “As soon as we’re done wagon racing, a lot of us take off to different Thoroughbred racetracks and pick up new horses and we retrain them to drive wagons, and we have a busy couple months of Spring training before we come back and actually start racing again.”
